Canova Antonio

Antonio Canova (1757-1822) was an Italian sculptor who worked during an art period known as Neoclassicism. During this era, some artists looks at Classical art as source material and inspiration. They were interested in ancient classical Greek and Roman myths as well as a refined, idealized representation of the human nude. Canova is best know for his renditions of nudes and love themes. His statue of the Three Graces, personifications of beauty, is inspired by classical times. His statue of Cupid and Psyche statue is a beloved example of the prospects and longing of love, romance and seduction.
