Petite Danseuse De Quatorze Ans (Little Dancer of Fourteen Years) from 1879-1881, is the only sculpture Edgar Degas chose to exhibit throughout his lifetime. He created a revolutionary piece breaking the stereotypical cold inanimate sculptures of his time. He made his ballerina dancer come to life. Although received with some disapproval because of its stark realism, it has become one of the most time honored, beloved sculptures around the world. She represents the time honored tradition many young girls experience -- the ballet class. Although sometimes association with Impressionism, his artwork has an non-idealized quality which at times, more closely associates him with Realism.

This statue replica is a delight. She is reproduced after over twenty lost wax bronze castings made with added fabric skirts and bodices. Our replica reproduces the bronze castings and the fabric skirt. She wears a fabric bow in her hair too with a serene grace. Degas signature appears on the bottom of the base. Our reproduction is a timeless addition to your art collection.

ABOUT EDGAR DEGAS:
Together with Monet the founder of French Impressionism, Edgar Degas (1834-1917)) was famous for his innovative compositions in his paintings and later in his sculptures. Degas created a tremendous amount of artworks. For an example, just with his ballerina images and sculptures, the surviving artworks total more than 1,500 plus in various stages of development (sketches, prints, monotypes, paintings, drawings and sculptures). For 10 years he sketched the young women training and then reused the sketches for new artworks during the next 40 years. The early rehearsal scenes were done in oil; and in 1878, he started using pastels for his dancers, nudes and horse-track scenes.

Lovely gift
I bought myself one of these figurines years ago and a friend has coveted it ever since and had hoped to buy one herself when in Paris but was unsuccessful. And so I ordered this for her and I am sure she will be surprised and delighted. It arrived in quick time and good order so I am very satisfied with the transaction.

Please Make a larger reproduction
"I've been waiting for someone to reproduce this beautiful work in a larger version with the fabric skirt, ribbon and shoes. Is that a possibility? It really would be wonderful."
