His fertile imagination ranks Marcel Duchamp (American, b. France, 1887-1968) as an important 20th-century artist, often associated with the Surrealism art movement. He invented "Readymades" -- taking everyday objects, possibly altering them, and presenting them as works of art. His first Readymade, Bicycle Wheel (1913) -- a bicycle wheel attached to a kitchen stool -- is possibly his best known work. Duchamp produced few works, most of them are in the Philadelphia Museum of Art collections. This is a working replica, 9"H.
