At the time in 1566, this portrait of Wolfgang Lazius, a famous scientist who was attached to the Habsburg court, must have provoked great merriment within those circles. Arcimboldo playfully composes his portrait with a stack of books including an open book to form the shape of his hair. As far as is known, it is the only portrait by Arcimboldo which is not composed of elements derived from nature. This statue adaptation from Arcimbolo's famous painting of the portrait of Wolfgan Lazius would bring a smile to a book collector, librarian, or philosopher and would be a stylish accessory to a home library or desk.
