In her cat paintings, Ronner-Knip concentrated on animal scenes in the lush Belle Epoch interiors popular at the time. The animals have individual personalities and almost human characteristics. In this artwork, Tea Time (1905), two kittens take a break from play time and lick up a few sips of tea (presumably mixed with milk, their favorite beverage). Their big eyes are barely aware that they are being watched.
