This sculpture bust of the legendary Roman general and leader, Augustus, is taken from a full figure sculpture called the Augustus Primaporta (AD 15) now in the Vatican Museum, Italy. Augustus was the first emperor of Rome. He brought peace and prosperity for the first time in 200 years to the Italian penisula and extended territories. He is said to have found Rome built of brick and left it built of marble. His portrait was emulated by many later Roman emperors as a perfect combination of ideal beauty, imperial propaganda, and heroic divinity.
Augustus (Octavian) statue torso is made from compound stone, white with grey wash finish, 16"W x 8"D x 24"H.
