Adapted from the sculpture The Kiss (1916) by Constantine Brancusi (French b. Romania, 1876-1957). This hand-painted ornament is based on the sensuous stone sculpture by Brancusi in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
This piece is the fourth version of The Kiss, on of several that the artist carved through his long career, and it is considered to be the most geometric of all. The sculpture is divided vertically down the middle. The horizontal position of the arms, the joint mouths, and the single arc of the two hairlines present a powerful unified whole. The Kiss is regarded as perhaps the quintessential representation of love in the twentieth-century art. Brancusi's simplified sculptures are widely acknowledged as icons of modern art.
Made in Poland exclusively from hand blown glass. Measures 4"H x 1.75"W x 1.5"D.
