As the son of Hermes and Dryope, Pan is the Greek god of flocks and shepherds, forests and wild life, and fertility. Part man and part goat with ears, horns, tail, and hind legs of a goat, Pan's musical contest on a reed flute with Apollo is legendary. In this sculpture (c. 500 BC) from the National Museum in Athens, Pan energetically plays the reed flute which he invented. Made from resin, resin base, bronze finish, 10.5"H.
