The relief commemorates two deceased Greek warriors, Chairedemos and Lykeas. It is from Salamis, ca. 420 BC. Now in the Piraeus Archaeological Museum, the original is six feet tall. From the idealized look of the two warriors, we see that by this time the convention of the Doryphoros (Spear Bearer) as an ideal youth had become the model for sculpting. The warriors appear at their prime age with physical prowess and good health.
Made from compound stone, gray marble finish, ready to hang, 21"H x 13.5"W x 2"D.
