The Bayeux Tapestry is a unique historical record (230 feet long), relating the events leading up to the Norman invasion of England, and culminating in a major description of the Battle of Hastings in 1066 between the armies of Harold, King of England, and William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy. This section of the Bayeux Tapestry illustrates this scene, "William Sails for England". Having heard that Harold has been crowned King of England after the death of Edward the Confessor in 1066, Duke William and his forces prepare to cross the English Channel for an invasion.
Made from cotton, includes hanging rod and screws, imported from Europe, 29"H x 74"W.
