Socrates Greek Philosopher Statue Bust
Greek Legend, 5th-century

The Greek 5th-century philosopher Socrates (469-399 BC) sought genuine knowledge rather than mere victory over an opponent; Socrates employed the arguments of logic towards a new purpose, the pursuit of truth. His willingness to call everything into question and his determination to accept nothing less than an adequate account of the nature of things make him the first clear exponent of critical philosophy. For his innovative approach, Socrates was tried for "impiety and corrupting the youth of Athens." Once convicted, he killed himself by ingesting hemlock.

This Statue Bust of Socrates is reproduced after an original in the British Museum. It is handmade here in the USA and his head is a little larger than lifesize. With lighting, the piece has lovely cast shadows which add depth and character to this important historic figure.

Made from interior resin, flat white finish, 10"W x 9"D x 22"H. NOTE: Head is approx. 125% lifesize.
