The Buddha meaning The Enlightened One or The Awakened One was born Siddhattha Gotama around the year 623 BCE in what is now Southern Nepal. His father was King Siddhodana; his mother was Queen Maya. At the baby prince's naming ceremony, Brahman priests had predicted he would either become a world leader or a great religious teacher.
