This Aeneas Helping his Father Greek Red Figure Vase (Attica Oinochoe from 560 BC) illustrates this Trojan warrior second strongest only to Hector. He was the son of Anchises and Venus. When the Greeks sacked the city of Troy at the end of the Trojan War, Aeneas continued to fight courageously against the Greeks. Aeneas was ordered by Athena to evacuate the city before he would be killed. Depicted in this stunning vase is Creusa, Aeneas' wife, who gets lost in the confusion of battle and who gets left behind. Also shown is Aeneas carrying his father, Anchises, on his back and is being led by a helpful Athena.
