The Bayeux Tapestry was embroidered in the 11th Century to commemorate the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. The original in the Centre Guillaume le Conquerant Museum in Bayeux, France is 230 feet long and 20 inches high. It is a complex treasury of information about William's victory and Norman and Anglo-Saxon society with depictions of farming implements, table etiquette, and warfare.This section of the Bayeux Tapestry illustrates this scene. In the year 1064, under orders from King Edward the Confessor, Harold sets sail from Bosham, Sussex, to inform Duke William of Normandy that he (William) should succeed to the English throne. Made from Cotton, imported from Europe, 19"H x 53"W. Also available in this size: 29"H x 80"W.
