Mt. Rushmore Bookends

This amazing granite sculpture, located on the north east edge of Harney Peak Granite Batholith in South Dakota is truly a work of art. Gutzon Borglum used dynamite in an innovative and unprecedented way to remove large amounts of rock quickly and inexpensively. 450,000 tons of granite were removed, 90% was blasted by dynamite. A total of 400 stone workers blasted granite along side the sculptor, with no deaths and only two reported injuries.
Construction began in 1927, and was completed in 1941 by Lincoln Borglum (Gutzon's son), following the death of his father in early 1941. Only 6 of these 14 years were actual production/sculpting years. The presidents on Mt. Rushmore: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.

These bookends are made of resin and measure 4.5"L x 4"W x 4.5"H.
