As the eighth of his twelve labors decreed by the Oracle of Delphi, Hercules was to gather the flesh-eating mares of Diomedes and bring them to Eurytheus, king of Mycenae. This piece illustrates the half mortal, half Greek god, Hercules, and Diomedes in mortal combat. Greek mythology has it that Hercules fed the vanquished Diomedes to his horses, who then became quite tame. The tales of Heracles and Diomedes can be found in the Illiad next to many of ther greek gods. Original in the Palazzo Vecchio, Florence from the 16th Century.
This Hercules and Diomedes Wrestling Statue is made from cold cast resin, in a white finish, measures 12"H x 5"L x 4.5"W.
