This Attica Lekythos is from 560 BC. The beauty and grace of the male form is shown in this depiction of two athletes running. They are followed by Eros, who carries a ribbon; perhaps a victory ribbon for the winner. It is unlikely they are running in a stadium, a race comprised of a single length of a track, was the only event that the first thirteen Olympics. Running was always performed barefoot in the ancient Olympic games. The original vase can be found in the National Museum of Bologna, Italy. This vase is no longer manufactured, once sold, it is gone forever. The painted details have a recently unearthed finish. This vase measures 16.5"H x 5"W x 5"L.
