Sculpted by the great Italian artist Antonio Canova (1757-1822). During the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte, the well known antique Venus de Medici was confiscated by the French from the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The Florentine authorities commissioned Canova to sculpt a replacement and he presented them with this beautiful rendition: Venus Italica, now in the Pitti Palace, Florence.
Made from white Carrara bonded marble, imported from Italy, black marble base, and measures 26"H x 7"W x 7"L.
