Claude Monet was born in France in 1840. In his early years he was an avid drawer and enjoyed sketching caricatures of people. Gradually people disappeared from his paintings and his favorite subject became landscapes and nature. He painted the famous Waterlilies on many different occasions. This is a particularly beautiful one with its brilliant hues of blue.
