Paris on Rainy Day Tote by Caillebotte

This fun tote bag is adapted from a detail of Gustave Caillebotte's "Paris Street; Rainy Day" (1877) now in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois. It illustrates various late nineteenth century Parisians walking along the newly rebuilt and widened streets of Paris carrying umbrellas in the afternoon rain. The vast expanse of wet stone pavement with its mostly uniform color has been executed stylistically similar to a Japanese wood block print which has patches of color. This interest in Japanese design elements is one of the characteristics of Impressionism, a French art movement, in which Caillebotte participated.

Our full color fabric tote bag has the same image on both sides (19.5"H x 15"W x 5"L), zipper closure, and generous shoulder straps.
