One of three ceremonial couches found in King Tutankhamun’s Tomb in the Antechamber arranged nose to tail, facing north, along the west wall. The cow-goddess of this guilded couch is recognized as an image of Mehetweret, ‘the great flood’. The blotches of the cowhide are represented by trefoils of opaque blue glass. The Book of the Divine Cow, a version of which is inscribed upon the interior of the first shrine protecting the sarcophagus, suggests that the Mehetweret couch was a solar barque which would speed the king from this world to heaven. Made from resin with color details, this bed/couch measures 7.5"L.
