There The Crouching Woman represents -- with her caryatid-like pose, powerful and vulnerable at the same time -- one of the lost souls being judged in the Last Judgment. Auguste Rodin's work is characterized by a passion for the human body and he considered himself incapable of any creativity if he did not have a living model in front of him.
