In ancient Egypt, many Egyptian works of art were designed to be read in hieroglyph symbolic language, in order to provide the underlying message, which was an essential part of the composition. In 1922, the tomb of the Egyptian King Tut of the 18th Dynasty was discovered. The funerary objects found in the tomb brought a new light on the art and life of ancient Egypt.

Only Kings, Queens and Gods were allowed to carry this symbol. The ankh is the Egyptian sign of life and indicates that the king of God holding it has the power to give life of take it away from lesser mortals.

24k antique gold plate over pewter. Includes chain. The chain and ankh measures 11"H. The Ankh alone measures 2"H x .75"W.
