Egyptian Sakhmet Earrings

The original from which our Sakhmet jewelry was adapted was found during The University of Pennsylvania
Museum's excavation (1915-1919) in the city of Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. Among the pieces found in a
cache of gold and silver jewelry, was a pendant of solid gold in the figure of Sakhmet, the lioness-headed goddess of medicine and healing. While the dead, often wore amulets such as this one, they could also be used by the living to offer the protection of particular divinity to the wearer.

From the Egyptian section at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. 24k antique gold plate over pewter. Measures 1.5"H x .5"W.
