The Hand of God sculpture was produced in 1898 by the master sculptor Auguste Rodin. It represented a total break from any sort of traditional composition and the adoption of a form directly aimed at the imagination. The hand that powerfully molds the matter from which two newborn creatures, the original man and woman, emerge is the divinity which forms humanity from nothing, the Creator; it is also the symbolic image of the artist who invents a world.
The Hand of God statue originated from a study of a hand used for two characters in the Burgher of Calais group, the gestures of which evoke farewell and despair.
Our reproduction of Rodin's statue of the Hand of God is made from bonded stone with an antique finish, 11"H x 10.5"W x 10.5"D, 12 lbs.
