Theophile Alexandre Steinlen, frequently referred to as just Steinlen (November 10, 1859 - December 13, 1923), was a Swiss-born French Art Nouveau painter and printmaker. He worked from the Monmartre district of Paris as a poster artist and illustrator under his name and a painter of social commentary themes under a pseudonym. During his lifetime, he interacted with writers and artists through the cafe Le Chat Noir and created a prolific body of work including 700 front and back covers for the publication Gil Blas alone. Today he is well known for a series of illustrations of cats. As we see here in "Lait Pur", an advertisement for pure milk, a young girl wearing a bright red dress sips from a bowl as four cats longingly watch her and hope for chance at the bowl.
We offer this reproduction of Pure Milk by Steinlen on a mousepad for your home or office. Mouse pad has a full color fabric top, rubber non-skid mat, and estimated 9.5" x 8".
