Recommended Substitution: Pieta in Bonded Bronze

Sculpted by the Renaissance artist Michelangelo in 1501, the Pieta was described by Giorgio Vasari as "a miracle wrought from a once shapeless stone". It is both Michelangelo's first major religious commission and the only work that he signed. The Pieta is currently on display at St. Peter's Basilica.
