Dinosaur bones are some of the most fascinating evidence of what the world was like many millions of years ago. One species, Pteranodon Flying Reptile, is brought to life here in this museum statue reproduction. Pteranodon is not considered a bird or a dinosaur but rather a flying reptile from the Late Cretaceous of North America (Kansas, Alabama, Nebraska, Wyoming, South Dakota) identified by its crested skull and immense wings.
Although the name Pteranodon derives from the Greek words for "winged and toothless", the reptile was a carnivore. Fossilized fish bones were found in the stomach of one skeleton. Pteranodon had the appearance of a giant pelican whose wingspan reached 27 feet. Based on its wing to body size ratio, scientists assume it flew similar to a modern-day albatross bird using dynamic soaring to cover distances with little effort and surface seizing to capture its sea life prey.
In colloquial speak, Pteranodon is often erroneously called the "Pterodactyl." However, "pterodactyl" is not actually a name of a specific species; rather, it is a term for all short-tailed toothless pterosaurs.
Pteranodon Flying Reptile statue replica is made from cold cast bronze resin mix with blue color details on the bird and tree, and green on the vegetation on the base, intricate texture details, 8"H x 7.5"W x 4.5"D. It will delight a budding Paleontologist in your household!
