The French Post-Impressionist Vincent Van Gogh's painting of Starry Night (1889) is here preserved on a timeless wooden music jewelry box made in Italy in the old world quality of mahogany and lacquer. The box is lined with plush velvet and the metal parts are treated to avoid tarnishing. When the stunning blue wood box is opened, it plays a beautiful tune.
Van Gogh describes the starry night in his letter to his brother Theo van Gogh dated September 29, 1888.
". . . the starry sky [is] actually painted at night under a gas jet. The sky is greenish blue, the water royal blue, the ground mauve. The town is blue and violet, the gas is yellow and the reflections are russet-gold down to greenish bronze. On a blue-green expanse of sky, the Big Dipper sparkles green and pink, its discreet pallor contrasts with the harsh gold of the gas. -- Vincent Van Gogh's description.
Van Gogh Starry Night Jewelry Music Box is made from mahogany, blue finish, varnish, gold risers, imported from Italy, plays Mozart's Minuet Serenade No. 11, 6"L x 4.75"W x 2.5"H.
